photo of graduating class from school in Venif, 1936-1937.
Note the lack of shoes.  Helen believes these were all Jewish students
pictured.  Second from left in back row (looking bald because of the
lighting) is Helen's only brother, Hersh Grossman.  Next to Hersh is
Helen's sister, Celie (also pictured in Page 109).  Celie and Hersh were
the 5th and 6th oldest children.  Third from the right in the back is
Gita Hoffman, a survivor living in Cleveland who provided this picture
through relatives in Florida that received it from her family before
the war.  Two girls down from Celie in the back row is Leah Kahn and
slightly below her and to her left is her sister, Tsuri Kahn.  In the
middle of the picture is the teacher.  To the teacher's left is Chaika
Kahn.  The three Kahn girls were first cousins of Helen.  Leah was
shot with her parents in an aktsia in the Borshov ghetto in 1943.
Tsuri stayed behind in Venif and then died just after liberation from
Auschwitz. Chaika was with Helen and her sister Ethel when they fled
to the woods in Borshov in Fall of 1943.  But Chaika went back to try
to find some shoes and was never heard from again.  Presumably she was
caught and killed then.

Thanks a lot to Stan for giving us these photos from his family.
